In a society where intersections have neither visibility nor voice, breaking the silence of cultural nuances will challenge the norms dictated to us. 

The Figurative Mask

A self initiated project depicting the maladaptive coping strategy of emotional avoidance. The process of concealing and suppressing our emotions with a façade of happiness or strength is one that many feel compelled to do. With conversations about mental health becoming more open and honest, my intention with this illustration is to increase understanding, and thus work towards eradicating the stigma. 

 The subject is scantily clad to evoke how exposed one can feel when vulnerable to the elements of life. I illustrated using graphite and pastel, focusing on anatomical precision.
